HSBC Revolution Card with a big word Update and mountain background

HSBC Revolution Card Permanent Upgrade: Up to 8 mpd, Travel & Contactless Bonuses

Starting 1 April 2026, the HSBC Revolution Credit Card will receive a significant upgrade, with several improvements to its rewards structure.

Cardholders will now be able to earn up to 8 miles per dollar (mpd) on eligible spending when they maintain a qualifying deposit balance with HSBC.

In addition, travel and contactless transactions will once again qualify for bonus rewards, and these categories will now be restored permanently instead of being offered through limited-time promotions. The card will also continue to offer a monthly bonus cap, allowing cardholders to maximise higher earn rates on eligible spending.

Let’s take a closer look at the changes.

New Earn Rates (Effective 1 April 2026)

The HSBC Revolution’s earn rate will now depend on whether you maintain deposits with HSBC.

Most cardholders will continue to earn:

  • 10 HSBC Reward points per S$1 on eligible transactions
  • This converts to 4 miles per dollar (mpd)

Cardholders with S$50K HSBC EGA Balance

Cardholders who maintain at least S$50,000 Average Daily Balance (ADB) in a HSBC Everyday Global Account (EGA) will earn:

  • 20 HSBC Reward points per S$1 on eligible transactions
  • This converts to 8 miles per dollar (mpd)

Reward Points Structure

For eligible transactions, cardholders earn base points plus bonus points. The number of bonus points depends on whether you maintain S$50,000 Average Daily Balance (ADB) in an HSBC Everyday Global Account (EGA).

  • After hitting the bonus cap, spending will only earn 1 point per S$1.

⚠️ Important Notes:

  • Joint accounts do not count toward this requirement.
    • The S$50K requirement is based on Average Daily Balance (ADB) in a sole HSBC Everyday Global Account (SGD).
  • Points are calculated based on transactions posted in the calendar month, rounded down to the nearest S$1.

Travel and Contactless Bonus Categories Are Now Permanent

Another major update is the permanent return of bonus categories that were previously removed before the Revo Up promotion.

To qualify for bonus rewards, transactions must be processed as:

  • Selected online transactions, or
  • Selected contactless payments such as Visa payWave, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay.

Complimentary Travel Insurance Returns

Another feature making a comeback is complimentary travel insurance.

This benefit had previously been removed, but will now be reinstated for the HSBC Revolution card, providing coverage when travel expenses are charged to the card.

This makes the card slightly more attractive again for flight and travel bookings.

Card Upgraded to Visa Signature

HSBC is also upgrading the card to the Visa Signature tier.

While the bank has not announced additional perks tied to this upgrade yet, Visa Signature cards typically come with additional Visa benefits and travel privileges.

What Does the Visa Signature Upgrade Mean?

From 1 April 2026, the HSBC Revolution will be classified as a Visa Signature card instead of Visa Platinum. That means it sits one tier above the standard Platinum level and gives you access to a set of premium Visa benefits, including:

  • Visa Signature Concierge: A 24/7 service to help with travel bookings, dining reservations, event tickets and more.
  • Travel & Emergency Assistance: Support if your card is lost or stolen abroad, including replacement card support and emergency cash.
  • Global Acceptance & ATM Access: Broad card acceptance worldwide and access to Visa’s expansive global ATM network.
  • Visa Offers & Experiences: Access to Visa Signature‑exclusive offers and promotions across travel, shopping and lifestyle categories.
  • Visa Signature Luxury Hotel Collection Access: At participating hotels, you can enjoy perks such as complimentary breakfast, room upgrades where available, a food or beverage credit and VIP guest status when booking through eligible channels.

These are global Visa Signature benefits — individual perks may vary by bank, and additional HSBC‑specific privileges (if any) would be communicated by HSBC.

Things to Know:

As with most credit cards, not all transactions will qualify for rewards.

The following types of transactions are excluded from earning points:

  • Foreign exchange or currency transactions
  • Donations and charitable contributions
  • Gambling and lottery-related transactions
  • Cryptocurrency purchases
  • Payments to financial institutions or brokerages
  • Money transfers and payment services (e.g. PayPal, CardUp, iPayMy, Skrill)
  • E-wallet and prepaid card top-ups (e.g. EZ-Link, NETS FlashPay, YouTrip)
  • Government payments, taxes, fines and court costs
  • Insurance payments and premiums
  • Education and school payments
  • Utilities such as electricity, gas and water
  • AXS and ATM transactions
  • Instalment plans, balance transfers, and cash advances

HSBC determines eligibility based on Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) assigned by the merchant’s acquiring bank.

To qualify for the higher earn rate and bonus cap, cardholders must maintain a minimum S$50,000 Average Daily Balance (ADB) in an eligible HSBC Everyday Global Account.

ADB is calculated by adding the account’s end-of-day balance for each day of the calendar month and dividing the total by the number of days in that month. Only deposits held in the cardholder’s sole HSBC Everyday Global Account (SGD account) are counted—balances in joint accounts are not included.

For example, if the daily balances in the account add up to S$1,550,000 over a 31-day month, the ADB would be S$50,000 (S$1,550,000 ÷ 31).

What This Means for You

Mostly a Buff

For most users, this update is a positive change.

The permanent return of travel and contactless bonuses ensures that the HSBC Revolution card continues to earn 4 mpd across a wide range of everyday categories, which was previously only available through the temporary promotion.

Big Buff for HSBC Deposit Customers

Customers who are able to maintain S$50,000 in an HSBC Everyday Global Account will see the biggest benefit.

With an earn rate of 8 mpd, the card becomes one of the highest-earning general spending cards in Singapore—though the bonus cap still limits how much spending can earn at that rate each month.

Final Thoughts

These changes effectively turn what was once a temporary promotion into a permanent feature of the HSBC Revolution card.

Key highlights include:

  • Up to 8 mpd with S$50k HSBC Everyday Global Account balance
  • Permanent restoration of travel and contactless bonus categories
  • Complimentary travel insurance returning
  • Upgrade to Visa Signature

While the highest earn rate requires a sizeable deposit relationship with HSBC, the card remains a solid 4 mpd option for online and contactless spending, making it a strong contender for everyday rewards.
