Is it Worth it:
Advantages:
– No annual fee forever; saves you the hassle of calling for an annual fee waiver
– You can earn 4 miles per dollar on daily spends or 2.5% cashback
– No transfer fee for miles transfer from 28th May till 31 Jan 2025 (yay!)
Disadvantages:
– Limited monthly spending cap of S$1K
– Limited spending categories as compared to Citi Rewards
– May not be a great card to spend in foreign currency even with a 4 miles per dollar earn rate
Frequently Asked Questions:
– When will my points be credited: Usually after 1-3 working days of the transaction posting, 1X base HSBC Points are credited. Bonus 9X HSBC Points will appear on the cardholder’s statement at the end of the second calendar month, and they will be credited by the end of the subsequent calendar month from the date of transaction.
– How long are my points valid for: 37 months. Just before it expires, you can transfer it to Krisflyer, and once the points are correctly credited into Krisflyer, you’ll receive an additional 36 months. This provides you with a considerable amount of runway—roughly six years—to burn through the miles.
– How do I claim miles for HSBC revolution: I covered it in a TikTok video here.
– Will my points still remain in my HSBC account if i carry other HSBC credit cards: Points will be pooled across all credit cards for redemption purposes, but if you’re planning to cancel a credit card, make sure to redeem all points you’ve earned on that card. If not, it will be gone.
Now till 31st Jan 2025, users of HSBC credit cards like HSBC Revolution and Visa Infinite can now be allowed to transfer their combined point balance, meaning they can transfer their points without having to pay transfer fees, almost instantly. Final Thoughts:
- For all travel-related spending, you can start transitioning to use DBS Women’s World Mastercard instead. If you still want to use HSBC Revolution for travel, you can pay via atome to get 4 miles per dollar but you have to do manual payment trigger as people have reported that auto-deduction does not give 4 miles per dollar.
- i think atome gives the best hotel pricing on agoda hands down anyway, why not get the payment spread out with no interest anyway? (but if you find a better deal elsewhere, let me know!). Feel free to use my Atome referral link to get S$10 off your first purchase.
- For all contactless spending, you can use Citi Rewards + Amaze is the safest because it allows for even doctor’s visit, TCM, google ads to clock 4 miles per dollar. If not, there are some cards like UOB Lady’s or UOB PPV that can be a backup, but there are not a catch-all card like Citi Rewards + Amaze.
- Not a great card to use it overseas (3.25% fcy fees will eat your rewards).
- Overall, this card can serve as a backup card to give you 4 miles per dollar if you still have it.
- The ability to pool points with other HSBC Credit Cards makes it not too bad.
- I could see myself using this card to earn 4 miles per dollar on monthly gym memberships or online spending on shopee/amazon/lazada or ride hailing services or making Atome/Shopback Pay/Kris+ payments.
- I think I may transfer my points out of HSBC Revolution around Jan 2025 to take advantage of the free transfer, just in case i decide to cancel the card. The way the transfer works is that: you just need the first 25K HSBC points, then after which you just need blocks of 5. So you can transfer 25005, 25010 etc.
- Some people feel that cancelling the card might not be a bad idea to “reset” your status – because after 12 months, you will be considered a new-to-bank customer. Then you can qualify for the new sign up bonus rewards when you sign up for a new HSBC Card. ? (don’t say I say one. ?)
Credit cards change their T&Cs every so often and it is difficult to stay updated. That’s why I created a Telegram Broadcast where you can receive timely bite-sized updates to get the most out of your spending.
