Card Overview
The Citi Rewards Card earns 4 miles per dollar (mpd) on almost all online spend. It also earns 4 mpd on in-store shopping at department stores, fashion outlets and shoe stores. This 4 miles per dollar earn rate applies on up to S$1,000 spending per statement month. Travel bookings and online payments made through Apple Pay or Google Pay don’t count, but for everyday online and retail spending, few entry-level cards beat it.
Pairing it with the Instarem Amaze card lets you earn 4 mpd on in-store spending outside those shopping categories. You also skip the 3.25% foreign currency fee when you spend overseas. Amaze charges a 1% fee on local SGD transactions, with a minimum of S$0.50, so the combo works best for overseas spending or local purchases of S$50 and above, where the fee is a flat 1%.

Eligibility & Fees
- Annual Fee: S$196.20 (Primary) or S$98.10 (Supplementary), waived for the first year
- Minimum Age: 21 years old
- Minimum Annual Income: S$30,000 (locals/PR) or S$42,000 (foreigners)
No need to worry if your income is below this threshold because a secured version of this card only needs a S$10,000 fixed deposit.
Getting the annual fee waived is usually easy for an entry-level card like this. I’ve had mine waived every year since I got it. You can check out my TikTok video on getting an annual fee waiver.
Key Benefits
10 points on local & foreign spend, with a bonus cap spend of S$1,000 per statement month based on posting date.
Including spend above the cap, earns the base 1 TY point with no limit.
Here’s how your points add up for every S$1 spent:
| Rewards | Points |
|---|---|
| Base point (all qualified transactions) | 1 TY point (0.4 mpd) |
| Bonus points (eligible transactions) | 9 TY points (3.6 mpd) |
| Total rewards points (local & foreign spend) | 10 points (4 mpd) |
| Bonus cap spend per statement month based on posting date | S$1,000 |
All other qualifying spend, including spend above the cap, earns the base 1 TY point (0.4 mpd) with no limit. The cap resets on your statement date and counts transactions by posting date, so a purchase made just before your statement date may count toward the next month’s cap. You can refer to the full details in the Citi Rewards terms and conditions.
What is considered an eligible transaction?
No matching MCCs. Try another code, category or example.
1. Online purchases
Almost all online purchases, such as ride-hailing, groceries, food delivery, Lazada, and Shopee, are eligible for bonus points. This makes the Citi Rewards Card flexible, allowing you to earn bonus points across a wide range of everyday online spending.
However, travel-related transactions don’t earn bonus points.
These include:
| MCCs | Description | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 3000-3350, 4511 | Airlines, Air Carriers; Airlines, Air Carriers (Not Elsewhere Classified) | Singapore Airlines, Air France, Delta Air Lines, Emirates |
| 3351-3500, 7512 | Car Rental Agencies; Car Rental Agencies (Not Elsewhere Classified) | Hertz, Avis, Budget, Enterprise |
| 3501-3999, 7011-7012 | Lodging – Hotels, Motels, Resorts; Lodging – Hotels, Motels, Resorts (Not Elsewhere Classified) | Marriott, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Four Seasons |
| 4111-4112, 4789 | Local commuter transport and passenger railways | Amtrak, Eurostar, JR East, SMRT |
| 4411 | Cruise Lines | Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, Princess |
| 4722-4723 | Travel Agencies and Tour Operators | Expedia, Booking.com, Klook, Chan Brothers |
| 5962 | Direct Marketing– Travel-Related Arrangement Services | Airbnb, Agoda, Trip.com, Hotels.com |
This also covers SimplyGo bus and MRT fares (MCC 4111), so Citi Rewards isn’t the card to use for public transport.
Online payments made through Apple Pay or Google Pay don’t earn bonus points either, even for non-travel spend. Choose the credit card option at checkout instead. For instance, if you order food through the McDonald’s app and pay using:
- Google/Apple Pay linked to the Citi Rewards card: Earn only 1 TY point or 0.4 mpd
- Citi Rewards Card using the credit card option: Earn 10 TY points or 4 mpd.

2. Selected shopping categories
Earn bonus points on both online and in-store shopping at eligible department stores, clothing stores, and shoe stores. Here, tapping Apple Pay or Google Pay in-store still earns 4 mpd. Tapping at shops outside these categories (e.g. restaurants) earns only 0.4 mpd.
Eligible merchants include:
| MCCs | Description | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 5311 | Department Stores | Aeon, Bed Bath & Beyond, M & S |

| 5948 | Luggage and Leather Goods Stores | American Tourister, Rimowa |
What to avoid
Not all purchases qualify for rewards. Transactions such as payments to educational, government, and financial institutions, insurance companies, quasi cash, donations, hospitals, and utilities earn nothing. You may refer to the full exclusion list here: Citi Rewards exclusion list.
How to maximize earning bonus points?
A popular way to earn 10x points is linking your Citi Rewards card with the free Instarem Amaze card. This combination offers the following benefits:
- Convert offline transactions into online transactions (local & overseas)
- Bypass the mobile wallet exclusion
- Avoid the 3.25% foreign currency fee
Amaze transactions are tagged as online transactions on your Citi Rewards card, allowing you to earn bonus points on in-store (offline) purchases at any merchant not on the exclusion list, even if they don’t fall under the selected shopping categories. This is particularly useful when you’ve reached the spending caps for your other cards (e.g., UOB Preferred Visa and UOB Visa Signature).
Linking your Citi Rewards card to Amaze and adding Amaze into your mobile wallet can also bypass the mobile wallet exclusion when necessary. For instance, Kris+ only accepts payments through Apple or Google Pay making this hack helpful for Kris+ users. This works because Citi sees the charge coming from Amaze, not from Apple Pay or Google Pay, so it’s still treated as an online transaction.
Using Amaze overseas also helps you avoid the 3.25% foreign currency (FCY) fee because it charges your Citi Rewards card in SGD. However, transactions are still subject to an FX spread of up to 2.1%, which is still lower than Citi’s FCY fee.
Amaze doesn’t change the merchant category, so travel-related spend still won’t earn bonus points.
Watch out for fees!
Since March 2025, Amaze charges a 1% fee on every local SGD transaction, with a minimum of S$0.50. Because of the minimum, smaller purchases pay a much higher percentage, which makes each extra mile more expensive:
| Spend | Amaze fee | Fee as % of spend | Cost per extra mile * |
|---|---|---|---|
| S$10 | S$0.50 | 5% | 1.4¢ |
| S$20 | S$0.50 | 2.5% | 0.7¢ |
| S$50 | S$0.50 | 1% | 0.3¢ |
| S$100 | S$1.00 | 1% | 0.3¢ |
*Based on the extra 3.6 mpd you earn by paying through Amaze instead of tapping your Citi Rewards card directly in-store.
As a rule of thumb, only use Citi Rewards with Amaze locally for spends of S$50 and above, if you really need to use it for in-store payments. For smaller in-store purchases, tap your Citi Rewards card directly (0.4 mpd) or use another card that earns bonus miles in-store.
This fee doesn’t apply to foreign currency spend, which is why the combo works best overseas.
How to use the Amaze card?
Link your Citi Rewards card in the Amaze app and select it as your source of payment. You can then use the physical Amaze card or add it to Google Pay or Apple Pay for contactless payments. Make sure to select Citi Rewards as your source card so you don’t miss out on the 4 mpd!

What can I do with my Thank You points?
Citi Rewards Thank You (TY) points can be used to redeem merchandise and gift vouchers, get Apple rewards, offset eligible purchases with points, receive cash rebates, or transfer points to airline miles and hotel points.
What do I need to know before transferring Thank You points to airline miles or hotel points?
Citibank offers 11 transfer partners (listed below), all at the same rate of 25,000 TY points to 10,000 miles.
Transfers are made in blocks of 25,000 TY points, with a S$27.25 fee (inclusive of 9% GST) charged for each transfer. Points cannot be pooled across Citi cards, so each card needs at least 25,000 TY points on its own to make a transfer. For example, if you have 20,000 TY points on each of two Citi cards, you can’t transfer either balance, even though you have 40,000 points in total.

Other things to know about your Thank You points
When are ThankYou points credited to my account?
Points are credited when transactions post, usually within 1–3 days.
How long are my ThankYou points valid for?
All TY points earned on the Citi Rewards Card expire five years (plus a three-month grace period) after card approval or renewal, not five years after the points are earned. For example, if your card was approved on 1 June 2020, all points earned from 1 June 2020 to 31st May 2025 will expire on 31 August 2025. A new five-year cycle for your TY points begins on 1 June 2025.
Tip: Points earned late in a cycle can expire within a few months, so note your card approval or renewal date and transfer your points before each cycle ends.
Final Thoughts
Citi Rewards is still one of the easiest ways to earn 4 mpd on everyday online spending and on in-store shopping at department stores, fashion and shoe outlets, up to S$1,000 per statement month. Just remember that travel bookings and in-app mobile wallet payments don’t earn bonus points.
Pairing it with Amaze now works best overseas, where you skip the 3.25% FCY fee and still earn 4 mpd. Locally, the 1% fee means the combo only makes sense for spends of S$50 and above.
