American Express is running a transit promo called Tap, Pay and Ride. Tap in and out on the bus or MRT with an eligible American Express Card — or the same card in Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay — and you get S$2 back for every S$10 you spend on SimplyGo rides. That works out to 20% back on fares you were paying anyway.
The offer also reaches beyond cards issued by American Express. The DBS and UOB co-branded Amex cards qualify too, and a few of them still earn their usual miles or cashback on the same rides. Co-branded cards are usually left out of Amex Offers, so this is one of the few times they are included.
One thing on timing: the promo runs till 31 August 2026, and it credits S$2 back twice a month per card.
The Offer At A Glance
| Detail | What it is |
|---|---|
| Reward | S$2 back for every S$10 spent on SimplyGo rides (20%) |
| How often | Twice a month per registered card — up to S$4 a month |
| Promo period | 2 June to 31 August 2026 (August is the last window) |
| Registration | Required before you tap |
| Cards accepted | First 100,000 registered cards |
| Whose cards | Principal and supplementary cardholders |
| Where it counts | Direct SimplyGo bus and MRT fares in Singapore |
If your card is issued by American Express — the Platinum Charge, True Cashback or KrisFlyer Amex — the simplest way is the Amex SG app: go to the Offers tab and save the offer. You can also use the enrolment link and key in your card number. A DBS or UOB co-branded Amex card is not in the Amex app, so register it through that same enrolment link. Then tap in and out as usual — the S$2 credit posts automatically once you reach S$10 of rides. The statement credit usually shows within about 15 business days, and in some cases up to 90 days after the offer ends.
Which Cards Earn On The Rides
The S$2 credit works on any eligible AMEX card, including co-branded AMEX cards, but the cards issued directly by American Express — the Platinum Charge, True Cashback and KrisFlyer Amex — earn nothing on SimplyGo.
The DBS and UOB co-branded Amex cards are different: they keep earning their normal miles or cashback on the rides, and the S$2 sits on top. The rates are far apart, so it is worth knowing which one you are tapping.
| Card | Earn on SimplyGo, on top of the S$2 credit |
|---|---|
![]() DBS yuu Amex | Up to 10 miles per dollar (mpd), or 18% rebate — only in a qualifying month: S$800 spend across at least 4 yuu merchants. Base rate otherwise |
![]() UOB PRVI Miles Amex | 1.4 mpd |
![]() DBS Altitude Amex | 1.3 mpd |
![]() UOB Absolute Amex | 1.7% cashback |
My Take
If you hold the DBS yuu Amex and you already clear its S$800 monthly minimum across four yuu merchants, use that one. You get the 20% credit on top of up to 10 mpd, which is the strongest pairing here. If you do not clear that minimum, the yuu earn rate drops and the 20% credit is the same on every eligible card — so tap with whichever Amex you already carry. What To Watch Out For
- Register before you tap. Rides you take before saving the offer do not count.
- The offer is capped at the first 100,000 cards — an error on save means the card is not eligible or the cap is reached.
- Only the August window is left. June and July cannot be backdated.
- Tap in and out with the same card or device. If you tap in with your phone, tap out with the same phone, or the system can read it as two trips.
- Only direct SimplyGo bus and MRT fares count. Online, third-party and private-bus payments do not.
- This is separate from the old EZ-Link top-up route, which no longer earns rewards. The credit here is for tapping your card straight at the gantry.
As always, check the official terms before you rely on any figure above. Here are American Express’s terms for the Tap, Pay and Ride offer.
