This guide covers the miles and cashback cards for Golden Village, Shaw and other movie theatres and the discounts that stack on top.
How Cinema Spend Is Tagged
Cinemas are usually tagged under merchant category code (MCC) 7832 (Motion Picture Theatres). Banks decide bonuses by the MCC and sometimes, the MCCs can vary, so test with one small booking before relying on it for larger spend.
How You Pay Changes What You Earn
How you pay matters as much as which card you use. Some cards only give their bonus on online transactions, so the booking has to go through the cinema’s website or app. Others treat a phone tap (Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay) as mobile contactless but earn nothing extra on a physical card tap. The How to Pay column in the tables below shows which is which.
Ticket Discounts Running Now:
These discounts lower the ticket price before your card earns:
- GV Movie Club is free and gives S$2 off tickets on Mondays and Tuesdays.
- DBS/POSB cards give S$2 off 2D tickets at GV Monday to Sunday (Gold Class: Monday to Thursday; not on public holidays or their eves) until 31 Dec 2026, on GV’s website, the iGV app, PayLah! or the ticket machines — not at the box office, and mobile payment methods such as Apple Pay and Google Pay are not accepted.
- OCBC cards give S$1 off regular 2D tickets at Shaw any day until 31 Dec 2026 (or a S$38 package with two tickets, two drinks and a popcorn); Shaw’s terms exclude combining it with membership or loyalty pricing.
- SAFRA members pay S$13.50 for weekend and S$9 to S$9.50 for weekday Shaw tickets until 31 Dec 2028, and can pay with any credit card, so the card bonus stacks.
- ShopBack pays 4% cashback on gv.com.sg bookings, capped at S$2 per item — website only, not the iGV app.
- HomeTeamNS members get all-day 1-for-1 2D tickets at GV, booked through the HomeTeamNS app.
You can also buy GV vouchers via Klook. However, this means that it is charged by Klook, which is tagged as a travel agency (MCC 4722). This means you would need to use cards that are suitable for Online Travel Agencies, not for movie bookings. The card line-up for that is in my Best Cards for Online Tour Package guide.
Without further ado, let’s look at the best cards for movie bookings.
Miles Credit Cards
| Card | Earn Rate | Min Spend & Cap | How to Pay |

![]() UOB Preferred Visa | 4 mpd (entertainment when booked online, or mobile contactless in person) | Min: none · Cap: S$600 spend/calendar month each for online and mobile contactless (the contactless cap is shared with your other mobile-wallet spend) | Online, or phone tap at the counter — a physical card tap earns no bonus |

My Take
UOB Lady’s earns 4 miles per dollar (mpd) however you pay — online, a phone tap, or a physical card at the counter — with no minimum spend, and no other miles card here does all of that. That is what makes it the winner once Entertainment is your chosen category. Take note: the category is fixed for the quarter, so choose Entertainment only if movies and other entertainment spend are what you’d put on the card anyway. If you don’t want to commit a category, Citi Rewards and DBS Woman’s World earn the same 4 mpd on online bookings, also with no minimum spend. If you’re between 21 and 39, Maybank XL Rewards earns 4 mpd on cinemas through its Play category once you spend S$500 a month on it.

My Take
Every cashback option here carries a minimum spend, so these only work if the card is already your main card. UOB Evol is a good all-rounder card for general spend, and HSBC Live+ is a great choice if you can clear S$600 in every month on the qualifying categories.
